Distance education is also known as off-campus or distance learning. It means to get education without attending regular classes on a specific place. There are many people who are not able to attend the college or university due to some reasons. We are all spending busy lives. Most of us are working very hard to meet the financial requirements. We do not have much time to upgrade our education. Distance education is offered by many universities to enhance our knowledge while sitting at home. Distance education provides us the opportunities to arrange our study around our work. It is also very important to give time to our family after job. They have been divided in to 2 main groups like asynchronous and synchronous.
If all the students are present at a fixed or same time then Synchronous technology is used to deliver the lectures. The students are sitting at different places but they are participating online at the same time. It involves videoconferencing and web conferencing. A time table is provided to every student so that they can attend the lectures and discussions online. Live streaming, telephone, direct broadcast satellite and internet radio are used in synchronous technology.
The asynchronous is the other approach of delivery where the students can have access to the course materials according to their own time. This style of delivery is more elastic. It is not necessary for the students to participate at the fixed time. They can study according to their own schedule. Message board forums, audio and video recordings, e-mail, fax, voicemail and print materials are used in asynchronous way of delivery. Some time, both methods are used in a same course. There are some benefits of distance education.

There are many purposes of education. The main purpose of education is to provide the equal opportunity to the people to have a balance life. A person could not be more responsible and productive without getting proper education. Educated person can know and follow the rules. Education teaches us punctuality and he knows the value of time because time is every thing now a day. A man with the combination of skill and knowledge can do great wonders.

Another important purpose of getting education is to get good job. Many people acquire more education and diplomas to have better jobs. It is true that the success of a person depends on his education. If he is more skilled and educated, he can have better opportunities to serve big companies. He can get high pay and better facilities by serving them. More and more people are getting distance learning who do not have time to attend regular classes. Many universities are offering many degree programs and diplomas for the serving people to upgrade them.

So, it is very necessary to provide equal opportunities to all the students. They should be provided necessary skills and knowledge so that they could keep pace with modern world.

Another important purpose of getting education is to bring about practical economic progress in the country. Everyone should be able to earn his living to lead a prosperous life. It makes the individuals self-sufficient. Skilled and educated human resources can contribute strongly to create the wealth of a nation. Every economic organization is an important part of economic development. So, if someone is earning money to serve an organization, he is contributing to help the company to make money. It also means that he is playing part in the development of economic conditions of the country.
