As a student, you should concentrate more on our studies rather than worrying about your debts. There are various ways in which you can try to pay off your debts and live a stress free life. If you mainly have credit card debts, and private student loans, you can try to get debt consolidation help. However, if you have federal student loans, you can try to defer the loan.

Ways to pay off your debts

The various ways in which you can pay off your debts as a student are as follows:

1. Negotiate repayment plans with creditor/lender – You can negotiate repayment plan with your creditors and lenders. If you are not yet past due, you can try this. However, most of the credit cards companies do not agree to a repayment plan till you are seriously delinquent. As for your student loans, there are various kinds of repayment plans based on the type of your loan like Income based repayment plan (for Federal student loans).

2. Debt settlement – Debt settlement generally lowers your outstanding debt amount by 40-60%. You will be able to settle your credit card debts and your private student loans. However, federally insured student loans cannot be settled.

3.    Debt consolidation – Debt consolidation lowers the interest rate and monthly payment. You can go for debt consolidation help in order to consolidate your debts. Your credit card debts can be consolidated through balance transfer or else you can also take out a debt consolidation loan in order to pay off your debts. If you have Federal student loans, you can take a Direct consolidation loan to combine several Federal loans. Both the private student loans and Federal student loans cannot be consolidated together. For consolidating your private student loans, you can seek debt consolidation help.

4. Student loan forgiveness – You can ask for student loan forgiveness. However, you can get student loan forgiveness only for Federal student loans such as the Stafford loan, Perkins loan, etc. Through student loan forgiveness parts of your debt gets removed.

In addition to the above points, you will also have to handle your credit cards and loans more carefully in order to stay away from debt.
